How we're learning to be content

Can you think of a time in your life, a season perhaps, where you found it difficult to be content? Are you in that season right now?

I know...it's not easy. And if we as moms, struggle to rest in our circumstances and choose contentment anyway, I wonder how much more so do our children wrestle with this? This is an area that weighs heavy on my heart. I don't want my boys to grow up in a prison of discontent. I don't want their joy to be dictated by their life's circumstances.

I wrote about this very topic recently in a post published over at the Hip Homeschool Moms. To read more about what God is revealing to this mom's heart, head over to read Teaching and Choosing Contentment.

How are YOUR lesson plans going?

We're several weeks into our school year now and slowly our routine is taking shape. This is never an easy process and each year is different. Our boys change and grow from one year to the next, as do their interests and passions. On one hand, I love this process, but if I'm not careful, executing those very well thought out lesson plans can be a very frustrating and painful process.

Verses like this...

“In his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps.” -Proverbs 16:9

and this...

“The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him; though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand.” -Psalm 37:23-24

...have caused me to re-asses the way I do all my lesson planning now. I'm so thankful for God's leading in this way. To read more about this, you can hop over to my article published recently at the Hip Homeschool Moms.

Preparing Hearts for the Homeschool Year Ahead

Summer is flying by as usual. And I'm wishing I could slow down the time because I want to make every second count. The minutes just seem to be getting away from me at lightening speed. At the end of each day, I take a mental inventory of what we did or didn't do and what got done or didn't get done. Do you ever do that? Honestly, most of the time, this isn't very helpful. I do tend to focus on circumstances and not enough on the most important things.

I'm realizing (over and over again) that when it's all said and done, our hearts are what matter most. I know it's what matters most to God. In any given moment, He is most concerned with what we are filled up with. So in thinking about our school year ahead, not only do I have curriculum, lesson planning, organization and million other school related things on my mind....but most importantly, this year, I am concerned with where my heart is and making sure that it's in the right place for the year ahead. And, I want to be sure that I am living out my faith moment by moment, no matter the circumstance, so that God can use me to speak His Truth to my boys so He can reach their hearts.
"But if from there you seek the LORD your God,
you will find him if you look for him with all your heart
and with all your soul." - Deuteronomy 4:29
This year, I'm really excited for the Not Back to School Blog Hop over at iHomeschool Network. If you haven't heard about it or want to learn more, do check it out! Each week during the month of August, homeschool bloggers from all over will focus on one theme per week in preparation for the start of school. I cannot wait to participate AND read about all the amazing things others are doing. It's always such an awesome resource and encouragement to me.

As I said before, Summer is flying by...and if I am going to be prepared for school, as with everything else I endeavor to do, the prep work needs to begin in my heart or it will fall flat (or I will). So I decided to write a little series on what God is doing in my heart to lay the groundwork for another school year ahead. This 3 day series will begin soon.
I would love it if you would join us here each day and link up with me on those days to share how God is preparing your heart for the journey ahead as well. Even if your school year has already begun or you school year-round....if we're seeking Him, we will find Him and because He cares so much about our hearts....He'll be busy loving us and graciously leading us closer and closer to Him. I love that about Jesus...His faithfulness to always love us unconditionally, no matter what.

Each day we'll focus on one "heart theme" during our series here. Here are our themes:
Pray    Inspire   Grace

I look forward to preparing our hearts together as we take a look at God's Truths for preparing our hearts for the road ahead.
